This is one of my pictures from the series “Cross” where I’ve shot the cross in different setups....

In this picture from Gloria church, Mumbai, I wanted to add the barbed wire as an element in the foreground and make it a metaphoric shot. While I was composing this frame I was thinking how much pain Christ must have gone through... the barbed wire I felt represented his pain. But then again opt...imistically, I also felt that he had risen above the pain...

This weekend we explore architecture while adding some thoughts and meaning into the pictures, rather than just clicking. Through this workshop expand your vision and mind, as we help you to 'see' beyond the obvious.

Architecture

 

 

I was shooting the minar at Daulatabad fort, Aurangabad.

While composing this frame I observed the very contrasting dark tones of the door from inside and the light outside. I felt the Minar visible at a distance represented hope and ambition to reach the top. While the door with its strong textures represented tough times, limiting beliefs to me.

I composed the frame such that the spikes on ...the door touched the Minar using a forced perspective. I wanted to convey that sometimes even if the going gets tough if one has the right perspective - you can still reach the top and touch your ambition. So compose your thoughts and mark your goals, your changed perspective will pave the way forward.
 

Fashion

I was going through my pictures and found this interesting Fashion shoot. I had a fantastic experience shooting for the fashion designing students of Le'mark Institute of Arts. Out of 6 groups we won the best photography award!

Bird Photography

As part of my Vraj bhoomi bird photography project, on the last day, luckily I saw these beautiful White famingos.

We had to hire a boat to go close to shoot them in various moods. We found a flock of 60 to 100 White flamingoes on the banks of Yamuna river in Gokul.

This endearing shot is one of my favorites! 

Architecture

On my photo tour to Aurangabad, I was shooting the monument “Bibi ka makbara”.

While I was going around the structure I saw this interesting jaali, was intrigued by how it was made, its intricate & delicate designs. This broken one caught my attention as I could see another structure from the view. This represented to me a mental breakthrough from limitations. The view of another structure through the opening seemed to represent hope and opportunities still ahead.

This is picture is shot at Crawford market, Mumbai.

 

I was shooting a bulb and coincidently saw this fruit vendor on the opposite side. I felt it would make an interesting frame to make the bulb an element and shoot the vendor through the ...bulb. I have clicked a series of these pictures through the bulb while the fruit vendor was going about his daily routine.

I feel Street photography is not just about taking photos of environmental portraits but using elements interestingly, to make a captivating frame.

Architecture

This picture was shot at Gloria Church, Mumbai.

As I started walking inside the premises, I saw some students play basket ball. I suddenly looked up at the bask...et ball net and could see the church’s cross through it. I felt this would be an interesting way to capture the church using the basket ball net as an element in the picture.  

The instant feel I got while looking at this picture was-The goal is to reach God! 
 

Sky and its mood swings

Bird Photography

Sharing an interesting capture with you all.
On my Vraj Bhoomi Bird project, we were travelling in a jeep when I spotted this bird sitting zen-like.

I was using a 100-400mm lens and that made all the difference in capturing the details of the bird so well. I loved the sheen and pitch black colour of its feathers against the green backdrop. Throughout the process of videographing and photograph...ing our bird remained as calm and composed.

Usually we find birds far off on tree tops or on water bodies, but luckily got this bird at such a close distance.

Sky and its mood swings

It was a beautiful winter morning around 6, in Vraj Bhooomi, Kamvan. The sky had a navy blue palette, dark with clouds. As the sun was rising, sunrays infused the sky, making everything glow. The sky's canvas was slowing changing from dark to light. There was a mesmerising transition of colours in the sky from navy blue to magenta purple to orange to yellow; in all of 5 minutes! This is one such capture from that energy-filled transition.

Creative Shots

One morning as I decided to take the stairs instead of the lift, this interesting play of graphics, due to the light & shade caught my eye. The light coming through the wall opening in spots covered the stairs like a carpet. Luckily I had a camera to capture this fantastic visual!

Portfolios

An interesting and impromptu shot from Brite Deol’s portfolio shoot.

Brite’s been a great model to shoot; has good features and is easy to click. I thought it would be interesting to shoot him in high key tones. The space and the bars made an interesting pattern around him; making Brite & his outfit stand out well.

This is a picture I shot of the Afghan church at Navy nagar, Mumbai.

I was shooting the exteriors of the church and noticed a piece of jaali/net fallen down. I thought it would be interesting to use the net as an element in the picture and experiment. In one hand I held the net and was shooting with the other. That gave me a through-and through effect on the picture. I then decided to crush the net to get this interesting foreground effect.

 

The idea was to shoot the obvious, differently.

Dance of the enchantress

I would like to share with you all a picture, what I call "Dance of the enchantress" from the Kala Ghoda Art Festival.

I was mesmerized with the graceful movements of the lady performing Mohiniattam. I noticed her silhouette while dancing and wanted to capture the graceful movements of the dancer in silhouette.

 

Portfolios

This shot is from the portfolio shoot for my dear friend Ravish Desai.

It was a very impulsive, momentary shot. Ravish was just waiting, getting ready for the shoot. I realised there was an interesting play of colours happening - Ravish's T-shirt - Blue Jeans matching the seagulls, blue sky reflecting in the Sea...

I made him stand casually bringing out his features and physique well. He seemed to match the lightness of the seagulls... Both waiting to take a flight!

Cityscape

This was shot at Worli Koliwada early morning.  I liked the interesting city scape view, contrast of the clouds & marshy soil, the sunlight... 

Also got a feel as if a blanket of clouds were engulfing the city!

Creative Shots

I would like to share this picture from the Kala Ghoda Art Festival. This was a Metal Art installation. I found this low angle view of the hand holding the globe very interesting. I had to actually lie down on the ground to get this view.

I wanted to match the blue & green colours of the globe with the blue sky, green tree leaves against the copper-bronze metal. For me this shot symbolises to have a global vision, ambition and having the sky as the limit!

Bird Photography

During my Vraj Bhoomi Winter Bird's Photography project, I found it rare to spot a black & white Kingfisher.

The confidence the bird had, seemed like he was the 'King' of his area. My observation is that they are very stable, focussed, sharp & confident birds; very comfortable in their own space. His calm composure was contagious. I could also click him at ease without worrying about missing a shot!

This is a shot from my Vraj Bhoomi Bird project. I was sitting on the banks of river Yamuna and saw this beautiful canvas, it seemed like God was in a mood to paint the sky itself!
